About Tom Vierus

Tom is a photojournalist, filmmaker, marine biologist, cinematographer, video editor, and author. His work focuses broadly on conservation stories, human-nature interactions, and ocean-related topics.

Tom is an Associate Fellow at the International League of Conservation Photographers and the Ocean Artists Society and was named ‘German Science Photographer of the Year’ in 2016. His films were screened at over a dozen film festivals, including four times at the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival in New York (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022).

Originally from Germany, Tom has travelled to nearly 50 countries. He lived in South Africa, where he finished high school, spent a year deepening his dive training in Egypt, and has been living and working in Fiji for over eight years. The South Pacific is also where he is based throughout most of the year.

In 2020, he founded Pacific Media House, a visual production company creating photography and films on land, underwater and from the air. His clients include leading international conservation and development organisations, including WWF, WCS, UNDP and SPC, and many others.

Tom’s photographs and videos are represented by the Nature Picture Library and the International League of Conservation Photographers. Tom also actively contributes to scientific literature and has published several peer-reviewed papers in the marine ecology field.

In 2024, on assignment in Papua New Guinea, Tom captured the first-ever photograph of the New Britain Goshawk, a rare bird that hadn’t been sighted for over 55 years.
